MemberPress alternative
Subscriptions are one way to be paid. Not the only one.
If you are looking for a MemberPress alternative, the question worth asking is not which plugin sells subscriptions better. It is whether subscriptions are the only thing you should be selling.
Fabrica Monetization Kit is a WordPress paywall and membership plugin. It does tiered memberships like MemberPress or Paid Memberships Pro, and adds every other way a reader might pay you – a single article, a category or author bundle, a day pass, a donation, a crowdfunding pledge – all inside the page, through your own Stripe account.
First, the honest bit
MemberPress is a good plugin.
MemberPress and Paid Memberships Pro are mature, well supported, and widely used. If what you need is tiered subscription access on a WordPress site, they do that job, and swapping plugins for its own sake would be a waste of your week.
The reason to look elsewhere is not that they are bad at what they do. It is that what they do is one shape of transaction, and most publishers need several.
Where it differs
Every level of reader intent gets a matching option.
● Subscription-only plugins
Subscription-only tools present one choice: subscribe to a tier, or leave. Every reader who was willing to pay you something, but not that, leaves with their money. Monetization Kit keeps the tiers and builds the rest around them.
✓ Monetization Kit
- One-off article purchases – a reader buys the piece they came for, and keeps it
- Category and author bundles – pay to follow one subject or one writer, past and future
- Day passes – time-limited access without a recurring commitment
- Donations and crowdfunding – for readers who want to support the work rather than buy access to it
- Memberships with offline benefits – tiers that include things that are not content at all
- Inline checkout – payment happens in the article, not after a redirect to a separate cart and confirmation flow
Questions worth asking
If yours isn’t here, email info@fabri.ca – we usually reply within a working day.
Can I run it alongside MemberPress rather than replacing it?
They both want to own access control, so running the two over the same content is asking for conflicts. If you are migrating, move the gating across rather than layering one on the other.
Do I need WooCommerce?
Only if you want it. Monetization Kit runs standalone with just a Stripe account, or syncs with an existing WooCommerce setup for unified reporting and tax compliance. Either path is fully supported.
Do you take a percentage of what I earn?
No. The licence is a flat annual fee. The only deduction from a payment is Stripe’s own processing fee, which goes to Stripe, not to us.
Do I need a developer to install it?
No. It installs like any WordPress plugin and connects to Stripe through a normal account authorisation.
